DuPage United Affordable, Accessible Supportive Housing (AASH) Update

DuPage United has been busy working on several initiatives and one that we would like
to share is the status of the affordable, accessible supportive housing (AASH)
development that DuPage United have been advocating for in the Village of Glen Ellyn.

Developer Full Circle Communities and Village leaders are in meaningful discussions
about this proposal. We are confident that because of the community’s efforts led by
DuPage United, the proposed AASH development will be accepted by the Village. In the
meantime, DuPage United leaders have been working on a variety of advocacy efforts
to keep Full Circle’s proposal in the forefront of the Village’s attention.

Recent DU led events concerning the AASH proposal in Glen Ellyn include the
following:

·DU leaders met with legal experts regarding affordable housing and fair housing
law. As a result of their counsel, DuPage United submitted a letter to the Village
President and Trustees advising them of potential legal exposure should they violate the
fair housing rights of the protected classes represented in Full Circle Communities’
proposal.
 · DU leaders leveraged an interview with the Daily Herald, resulting in a front-page
article about the Glen Ellyn housing proposal in the Sunday July 16 edition.
 · Through a contact with one of our affiliates, we brought this local matter to the
attention of US Congresswoman Delia Ramirez’, who secured a $750,000 federal grant
to fund demolition costs should the Village move forward with an AASH development.
DuPage United leaders will be celebrating the work we are doing with housing, mental
health and gun safety at our November Assembly which will take place on either the
12th , or the 19th of November.  Look forward to hearing more about this dynamic event.
