Summer Sundays for Families

Church school is on hiatus from June 16th through August 11th, although we do have options for families during worship: Nursery care for infants, toddlers, and as 1 option for Preschoolers/Pre-K. For Kindergarten – 5th graders, and as a 2nd option for Preschoolers/Pre-K, Veggie Tales will be shown in Starlight Cinema, Upper Level Room 219. Parents, please bring your children upstairs to sign them in before worship and pick them up after worship. Church school will kick-off for the 2024 – 2025 on August 18th along with the Blessing of the Backpacks in Worship.

The Art of VBSArtist David Exner Transforms FCCGE’s Sanctuary

“More Operation Restoration: Mending God’s World” meant learning about ways we can restore broken people, relationships and the world. Through a variety of lessons and activities our children learned about restoring by feeding, healing, forgiving and being forgiven, praying and resting. We chose butterflies as symbols of transformation, beauty, fragility and diversity. Each one unique, but all related to each other and their environment, just like us! The flowers provide the butterflies with nourishment, just as God provides for our needs.

Our intention was to create a bright, colorful worship space that would support our VBS mission. We hope you take a moment or two to take a closer look at the decorations. ~David Exner, Artist

Heart-to-Heart After-Service Reflection

Sunday, August 25, from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm, in the All-Purpose Room

Are you interested in forming deeper relationships with others from church and enhancing your sense of community and belonging? Would you like to participate in a small group and have connecting conversations? If so, the new Heart-to-Heart After-Service Reflection group will have its first meeting Sunday, August 25, from 11:15 am to 12:15 pm, in the All-Purpose Room. This group is for adults. You will be invited to share aspects of the service that were moving and inspiring to you. If this speaks to you, please join us! If you have any questions, please talk to Teresa Exner at the Welcome Desk on Sundays, e‑mail her or text her (630‑478‑1747). Other group leaders are Myra Walden and Katie Lindberg.

FCCGE Racial Justice Ministry

We’re hoping to gather some folks committed to forming new relationships with other groups of color in our area, to educating ourselves and the congregation on this issue, and finding ways we can get involved in the community in meaningful ways to promote racial justice, and work against racial injustice in all its forms. Please contact Pastor Kyle if you are interested.

Youth Group Volunteers Needed

For anyone interested in volunteering during JR High or SR High youth group activities, please contact Tanner. Youth group has traditionally met on Sunday nights, but there are also special events to sign-up for as well (like Sleep Out Saturday, Christmas Lock-Ins, Off-site outings, Feed My Starving Children, and more!) Whether you are a parent of a youth or not, even if you could only volunteer once in a blue moon, your help is appreciated! It’s a great way to support intergenerational connections too. There will be a short meeting in late August to go over responsibilities, safe sanctuary, what to expect as a youth group leader, and give suggestions. Tanner will be in the atrium after service on July 14th and 21st.
