No matter who you are, no matter where you are on life’s journey, you are beloved in the eyes of God and you are welcome here. Jesus preached about the power of love above all else.
God’s creation is a magnificent display of diversity, and love takes many forms. As an open and affirming congregation, we believe that all of them are sacred.
We are a Christian community that is grounded in tradition, but not beholden to it. Theology is open to interpretation. We believe that dogmas and creed are testimonies of faith, but not tests of faith that every individual must adhere to. God does not change, but manifests in different ways for different people. We are a Just Peace Church.
The Bible is a true story, insofar as it reflects true values. That does not mean that it is historically accurate. Scripture is a beautiful collection of ancient stories, poems, history, songs, and laws. It is a record of how one culture – Israel – encountered God in this world. It was written by numerous authors over the course of centuries. It is a powerful expression of faith that can guide us in our own lives, though it is not without cultural and historical bias or human influence.
Humanity has found many paths to God throughout its history. And God has manifested in different ways. We affirm the value of pluralism and the truth that different religions can share with each other.
We don’t have all of the answers. In fact, we haven’t got any. But our questions lead us to glimpses of truth and encounters with awe inspiring mysteries.
We all fall short of God’s desire for us, sometimes. By God’s grace, we are forgiven. And by God’s grace, we forgive one another.
Yeah, even that guy.
We live in a broken world, riven by conflict, oppression, and injustice. As followers of Jesus, we believe that we have a responsibility to help build a more just society, one that he envisioned in the Gospels. We are a Just Peace Church, and we strive to care for the poor, fight systemic injustice, and to build bridges instead of walls.
