Jeff will be celebrating his 25th anniversary as the Associate Music Director of FCCGE on Sunday, October 25th and we are planning a celebration for him that morning!
We have created a Kudoboard for Jeff where you can share photos, memories, and other thoughts about how Jeff has impacted you or your worship experience at FCCGE. We will be accepting entries through October 25th and then will share this with him so he can have a permanent memento from so many who he has touched, near and far.
Racial Injustice is a pervasive force that affects every part of our policy making and everyday lives. Despite strides in equality, racism is alive and well and continues to be a threat to our neighbors and to democracy as a whole. Wondering what you can do?
We will be continuing our Sacred Ground film and dialogue series where we will learn about such topics as Voting Rights, Immigration, and Palestine, among others. Each gathering will provide dinner and fellowship opportunities and are built around powerful documentary films and speakers where we can delve into these important topics of our day. We had a really good turnout and a good time hiking and learning about the Glen Ellyn Prairie Path Glacial Ridge with docent Bruce Blake in September. Join us Sunday October 25 at 1:00 PM (our normal time) for our next hike at the Salt Creek Park Forest Preserve at 18W200 Elizabeth Dr. Wood Dale, IL 60191. The main entrance is in on Forest Preserve Dr, just off of Elizabeth Dr between Addison and Wood Dale Roads. The park is full of Oaks and Hickories and is adjacent to the Salt Creek Greenway Trail which runs alongside the nearby ecological award winning Oak Meadows Golf Course.
Rabbi Bob has graciously agreed to a Q and A session with us this Sunday, October 25th in Pilgrim Hall after worship. Grab a cup of coffee and head down!
We often think of lost loved ones fleetingly as we pass through our day, but when do we pause and really reflect? Our Vespers Service of Remembrance is just that time to do that. We invite you to bring a framed picture of a lost loved one for our altar during the service that you may take with you when the service is over. Join us for our All Saints Vespers to reflect and pray. Childcare will be provided by staff in the Nursery during this worship service. Please bring your picture to FCCGE on or before Monday, October 26 and leave in our main office.
The historical term, “Negro Spiritual,” refers to the enormous collection of songs created by enslaved black people. We regularly sing these songs as hymns and anthems in worship. As part of our new social justice initiative, we are taking up special offerings to pay royalties for the use of Negro Spirituals twice a year for the next two years. The regular offering in worship on Sunday, November 1 will support DuPage County ACT-SO (Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics), a nation-wide program sponsored by the NAACP, that encourages high academic and cultural achievement among African-American high school students. Consider getting involved as a volunteer or judge for the ACT-SO program on Sat, March 20, or join our new Racial Justice Ministry. We will be teaming up with FUMC again and sleeping on their grounds. Families are invited to join for dinner, games, and a campfire. Youth 5th grade or older are invited to stay the night. FCCGE’s Visual Arts Ministry Announces“Prayers Ascending” Art Installation
“Prayers Ascending” is a future installation for our Sanctuary consisting of hundreds of paper doves suspended from the ceiling, containing handwritten personal messages (prayers) of peace, hope, love, or remembrance, contributed by YOU, members of our faith community. To participate, look for the box with the paper doves on it on the table outside the office, hand write a message or prayer on the paper provided, and drop it into the box. Your message will be attached to a paper dove and hung from the ceiling; hundreds of personal messages “rising up” from the earth to reach God.
