FCC is one of the churches supporting our Food Pantry for over 45 years. Food insecurity touches 10% of households in DuPage County. Demand has risen as much as 35% in 2026. That’s on top of the 9,500 families the Pantry served last year. The Pantry provided groceries 60,000 times in 2025 compared to 36,400 in the prior year.
Recent developments are increasing hunger in our community. Food banks have less food to distribute because of huge federal funding cuts. Illinois had $14.7 million in funding terminated and $6.4 million in other USDA funds frozen, halting a program that paired local farmers with food pantries.
Local support is growing. Early in 2026, DuPage County approved $2 M to fund fresh produce and commodities for the Northern IL Food Bank. In 2025, FCCGE donated >$14,000 to Glen House.
Please consider ways you can help us make a difference. Bring food items to donate. Donate using envelopes located in the lobby or on the Tithely app. Participate as a volunteer by signing up on the pantry website.

Racial Injustice is a pervasive force that affects every part of our policy making and everyday lives. Despite strides in equality, racism is alive and well and continues to be a threat to our neighbors and to democracy as a whole. Wondering what you can do?
We will be continuing our Sacred Ground film and dialogue series where we will learn about such topics as Voting Rights, Immigration, and Palestine, among others. Each gathering will provide dinner and fellowship opportunities and are built around powerful documentary films and speakers where we can delve into these important topics of our day. We gather on the third Wednesday of each month @ 6:30 in Pilgrim Hall. Registration is required for each month. Read more>
The harvest season is bursting with tomatoes, basil, zucchinis and more are harvested and donated by our Eden Project gardeners who have grown 433 lbs. so for this year for our neighbors in need! Last year, we donated 402 pounds of produce to local food pantries! Even if you have not formally signed up as an Eden Project gardener, we invite anyone who is experiencing an explosion of veggies, herbs, or fruits from their home gardens or orchards to drop off their extra produce at the church on Sunday mornings for the Glen House Food Pantry or at the local food pantry of your choice. On Sunday, March 22, 15-year old FCCGE member, Wesley Freeman, suffered an ultra-rare spinal stroke while practicing golf. The stroke affected the C1-T7 vertebrae, and he was paralyzed from the upper chest down. After spending weeks in the ICU, Wes’s health stabilized enough for him to begin down the long road towards recovery. He has been fighting to regain movement in his body. While he still has virtually no movement in any of his limbs, he is currently undergoing intensive rehab therapies at Shirley Ryan Ability Lab in Chicago. As of now, Wes will be at Shirley Ryan for intensive rehabilitation through late August. The future is uncertain, but Wes is fighting every day to get better. ~Help Hope Live

One of the mosque our confirmands visit is hosting a blood drive. This is part of their national “Muslims for Life” initiative honoring the lives lost on 9/11 and one they have been doing for over a decade.

Written by George Takei, of Star Trek fame, My Lost Freedom tells the true story of George’s childhood in the Japanese American incarceration camps during World War II. George, his parents, and his 2 siblings were unjustly imprisoned in the U.S. incarceration camps for 3 years. Forced into the camps when he was only 4 years old, George and his young siblings live a confused life- “excitement” over their new “adventure”, confusion about their parents anger and fear, and sadness as they are shifted from camp to camp. My Lost Freedom discusses a dark time in our country’s history that isn’t talked about enough. My 8 and 5 year old’s take was focusing on how unfair it all was. My 8 year old: “I would be so scared.” My 5 year old: “But they didn’t do anything bad!” It led to a discussion about the persecution immigrants in America continue to face today. In George’s words: “We were branded as ‘enemy aliens.’ But I am not an enemy or an alien. I am an American.”

For 6th-12th graders: Our new interdenominational youth nights include a meal, activities, small groups and prayer. We meet EVERY Wednesday.
To show our support and to visually lift in prayer those families in our congregation and community whose lives have been impacted by childhood cancer, please take a ribbon from the back of the Sanctuary in the Narthex during the month of September to tie on your front porch or around a tree in your front yard for the month of September. Sunday, September 18th from 7:00 – 8:00 PM at 1912 E. Indiana St, Wheaton. We will view a 17 minute mini-documentary, learn about three upcoming bills, and write postcards to our lawmakers.
