Mission Statement
- We desire to come to this with a SPIRIT OF HUMILITY, knowing that there is much we, as a white, privileged community does not comprehend, and yet acknowledging that we have an obligation, a responsibility, a debt, to those who have been harmed by racism and racist policies.
- We want to EDUCATE, not just ourselves but our congregation about these harms and the opportunities we have to understand and right them, and to participate in opportunities to expand our knowledge on the issues.
- We want to BUILD RELATIONSHIPS and PARTNER with communities of color and Indigenous folks in our area to learn and listen, to come alongside them and to find ways to partner in ways that Christ calls us to do. We want to LISTEN and LEARN.
- We want to ACT. We want to find tangible ways to not just talk the talk, but to help our neighbor. We do not yet know what that will look like, but I believe if we listen well, we will find ways to do that.
Sacred Ground, a Film Series
Racial Injustice is a pervasive force that affects every part of our policy making and everyday lives. Despite strides in equality, racism is alive and well and continues to be a threat to our neighbors and to democracy as a whole. Wondering what you can do?
We will be continuing our Sacred Ground film and dialogue series where we will learn about such topics as Voting Rights, Immigration, and Palestine, among others. Each gathering will provide dinner and fellowship opportunities and are built around powerful documentary films and speakers where we can delve into these important topics of our day. We gather on the third Wednesday of each month @ 6:30 in Pilgrim Hall. Registration is required for each month.
Congratulations to the DuPage County ACT-SO Local Gold Medalists
Fourteen high school students from DuPage County were awarded gold medals in STEM and Humanities categories at the local competition in March. They will all advance to the national competition at the NAACP convention in Chicago, July 18-22. ACT-SO is an acronym for Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics, which is a cornerstone of the youth division of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). There are 33 competition categories under the broad headings of STEM, Business, Culinary, Humanities, Performing Arts and Visual Arts. As part of our Royalties for Spirituals racial justice initiative, FCCGE has supported DuPage County ACT-SO with our twice-a-year offerings, totalling over $2,000. Ten volunteers from FCCGE participated as judges in various categories, and they are always looking for more volunteers for their mentoring program that starts up soon for the next school year.
